Second-source manufacturing through vetted partner factories
Why a second source
A second source keeps one factory, one tool or one disruption from deciding your year. It is a backup supplier qualified before you need it, not after the line stops.
The part decides the factory
Jack starts from the part, the volume and how the goods enter the US, then names the partner factory. If the second source should be a different shop from the first, he says so and explains why.
Qualifying the second source
Drawings, approved samples and the process setup go to the second partner factory. First articles are measured against the drawing and the approved samples. In-process and pre-shipment inspection follow, with QC oversight on that floor too.
Origin follows the floor
A second source only works if the origin is real: the article is marked with the place it is actually made. Lightly processing or relabeling goods does not change origin, and Jack will not do it. This is not legal or customs advice.
Where to start
Send the drawing or a sample. Read why partner shops are not interchangeable and the RFQ checklist.
Questions buyers ask
What is second-source manufacturing?
Qualifying a second, independent supplier for a part so production can continue if the first supplier is disrupted.
Can my existing tool be used at the second source?
Sometimes. Some programs move or duplicate the tool; others build a second tool. The choice depends on volume, tool condition and ownership.
