Custom packaging
Custom retail packaging: boxes, tins and blister cards.
The pack is part of the product.
JCH Design & Manufacturing makes custom retail packaging for US brands: printed boxes, gift boxes, tins, blister cards, inserts and master cartons, from dieline to a checked pack-out.
Printed retail boxes, pet door boxes, gift and lacquer boxes, tins, blister cards, clamshells, inserts and the cartons they ship in. Jack runs packaging the same way he runs a tool: a dieline, a proof, a sample, then the run, checked on the line. Every photograph on this page is packaging from a program he has worked on.

Pet doors
The box sells the door.
A pet door is bought off a shelf or a product page by its box: the photography, the size, the frame color and the fit guide all have to read in a second. The Aussie Pet Doors range, each box sized and printed to its door.

Gift and presentation
Packs that open like a present.
Presentation packs hold the contents still and open cleanly: a rigid, round, lacquer or magnetic box, a foam, satin or card insert cut to fit, and a print or finish that matches the brand.

Retail cards and blisters
Hanging on a peg, seen in a second.
A retail card has to fit a standard hook, show what is inside through the blister, carry the barcode and the copy a buyer needs, and hold together through shipping. Materials, mold cost, samples and minimums are on the blister and clamshell packaging page, and the card can hang on a corrugated hook or floor display made in the same program.

Packed for shipping
Boxed, cartoned, counted into the container.
The last cheap place to catch a mistake is before the container is sealed. Retail packs protected, master cartons checked against the order, marks and origin on every shipper. More packing and freight photographs are on the proof page.

What a pack job covers
The pieces Jack puts on the drawing.
Packaging is specified the same way as the part: agreed in writing, sampled, then checked on the line.
Structure and dieline
Box style, board or tin, the dieline, and a plain white sample that proves the fit before anything is printed.
Print and color
Artwork placed on the dieline, colors matched to the brand, and a printed pre-production sample signed before the run.
The insert
Foam, pulp, card or a molded tray, cut so the contents arrive the way they left the line.
Retail details
Hang hole, barcode, warnings and the copy the retailer or marketplace asks for, placed where they can be read.
Master carton
Count per carton, carton marks, dimensions and weight set before the first lot is packed, so the freight quote holds.
Origin marking
Country of origin on the retail pack and the shipper, matched to where it is actually made. See why that matters.
How a pack job runs
Four steps, in this order.
- Send what you have. The current pack, a sample, or a photo and the size of what goes inside. Jack reads it himself.
- Dieline and white sample. The structure and insert are cut and proved, unprinted.
- Printed sample.Artwork, color and copy on a real printed sample you sign before the run. Here is why an approved sample drifts by lot three.
- Pack-out check.Packs, cartons and marks checked at the factory before the container is sealed.
Have a pack that needs making?
Send a photo of the pack you have now, or of what it needs to hold. Jack reads it himself and tells you plainly what the dieline, the insert and the print involve. If the program needs sewn bags and pouches to go in the box, they run through the same program. Parts with a metal insert or an overmolded grip run through it too.
